Texas has been ravaged by bush fires and in Bastrop County the locals were taken by suprise as flames ripped through the area.
One such was John Chapman. His house was singed and took some smoke damage. Chapman (70) and his wife escaped with their lives... but his huge collection of classic cars was destroyed.
'I'M NOT GOING TO WORRY...'
All 175 vehicles kept in his garage and surrounding buildings were destroyed, among them a 1966 Pontiac GTO, a 1957 Chevrolet bakkie and a 1947 Studebaker.
Walking sadly through the remains of a dozen Corvettes, Chapman commented that although it was a heavy loss he was thankful to have lived through the disaster.
"You can laugh or you can cry," he said. "You might as well laugh. The house is safe, my wife and I are alive and good, and I'm not going to worry about it."
