Ferrari to sue over limo

A UK car enthusiast could be headed to court for converting a Ferrari into a limousine.

The Italian automaker is threatening legal action against Dan Cawley unless he removes all Ferrari insignia from his modified limo.

Ferrari argues that once Cawley sawed his 360 Modena in half and stretched it using hand-built carbon fibre panels, it was technically no longer a Ferrari.

8-SEATER FERRARI?

The "new" vehicle is 20ft (6m) long and can seat eight people. It even maintains is blistering pace, since it weighs only 160kg more than the original 1390kg vehicle.

Cawley argues that before he took on his monster modification project he got the green light from Ferrari to convert the 298kW supercar.

He said: "What kind of precedent does it set when you can't do what you like with your own property?"

The Modena modification cost Cawley and former McLaren carbon fibre expert Chris Wright a total of R2.4m. The limousine set a Guinness World Record for the fastest limo in 2011, reaching a speed of 267km/h.
