Years of planning, designing and testing go into vehicle development along with a few prototypes that don't make the cut.

Our exclusive spy photographers snap images of the latest models to show us what's in store for the near future.

So far in July (2012) we've received a dozen new models captured undergoing testing ahead of their eventual launch dates. Here are some of our top spy shot stories:

Toyota 86 aero kit
As Toyota prepares to launch its 86 sports coupe in South Africa, the Japanese automaker tests an aerodynamic kit for its new model in Germany.

Pagani Zonda R Evo
Fans attending the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed were thrilled when Pagani’s new Zonda variant raced up the course. The new Zonda R Evo receives improved suspension and an upgraded 566kW V12 engine.

Mazda 6 estate
The next Mazda6 will be unveiled at the 2012 Paris auto show in September though our spies spotted a station-wagon variant undergoing testing

Porsche Macan
Premium automaker Porsche is set to debut its next SUV and our spy photographers spotted the new 280kW V6 Macan.

BMW M4 Coupe
BMW will add the No.4 to its model range as the topless version of its new 3 Series will likely be named the new 4 Series cabriolet. A prototype of a performance-tuned variant was spotted - the 335kW M4 Coupe!

Lexus IS-F cabriolet
Lexus is pushing the envelope with its IS-F which has evolved into a drop-top set to rival the BMW M3 convertible.

Toyota RAV4
Toyota is gearing up to develop the next-generation of its popular SUV and a camouflaged prototype was spotted on the open road.
