Renault’s notorious hot hatch nomenclature disease is showing symptoms again; this time in smaller, Twingo form.
The French manufacturer, purveyors of probably the most impressive, if slightly oversubscribed, portfolio of hot hatches, has now seen the diminutive Twingo RS being offered in R150R form by those peculiarly tall and wealthy Europeans, the Dutch.
As you can elucidate from the badging, R150R underlines the Twingo’s power output, which in metric terms is up from 96kW to 110kW in the R150R state of tune – pretty heady stuff for a naturally aspirated 1.6l.
In comparative performance terms it’s good for a 210km/h top speed and 0-100km/h sprint in 8.3 seconds.
Beyond the manic little four-cylinder engine, R150R sports a standard Cup tweaked Renault chassis. Curiously the R150R is a Dutch sales and marketing exercise via the Kerkhof & Visscher Renault dealer network. You’ve just got to love a dealer who makes your hot hatch more bespoke in-house…
