A 20-year-old racing his car at more than 160km/h decapitated himself on 'dead man’s curve' in New York on Sunday.
It was the Labour Day weekend when Philip Boney-Scrivano hit a petrol pump in his late-model Honda Accord at 2am.
Boney-Scrivano was racing against a Nissan Altima from a Staten Island bar to a White Castle fast-food outlet, according to the New York Daily News.
The driver of the Nissan, Korey Swatz (33), was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, his blood alcohol level reportedly at 0.10 - the legal limit is 0.08 in New York State.
The Daily News said the place where Boney-Scrivano lost control was known locally as 'dead man's curve.'
Witnesses said that the Honda fishtailed (a sign of over-correcting) then smacked into a kerb, a parking meter, a street sign and finally a utility pole, which cut the car in two.
