Corsa revives GSi

accreditation
Opel have revived their legendary GSi moniker within their fourth-generation Corsa range with a turbocharged 1.6-litre version unveiled at the Barcelona Motor Show.

Slotting in below the range topping 141 kW OPC and 92 kW 1.7 CDTI turbodiesel, the GSI is aimed squarely at those expecting an exceptional price/performance coefficient.

The GSi enhances the new, rakish Corsa styling by adding a front spoiler lip, rear apron and spoiler, chrome tailpipe and the requisite 17-inch hot hatch mags. Interior styling modification are the usual superfluous, race imitation items such as red inserts on the leather steering wheel and red safety belts.

Producing 110 kW and 210 Nm from the four-cylinder, turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine the GSi promises brisk performance. Opel factory performance claims are a quick 8.1 second 0-100km/h sprint and a 210 km/h top speed. Overall combined consumption is claimed to be in the region of 7.9-litres per 100 km's.

Both three- and five-door Corsa body styles will be available in GSi configuration.
