Clarkson slams The Stig witchhunt

From Fernando Alonso to SA's Vernon Koekemoer, many motoring enthusiasts have suggested who Top Gear's masked crusader could be.

Following The Stig’s accidental unmasking as racer Ben Collins, Top Gear star Jeremy Clarskon has hit out at those who would try to find out his true identity.

Writing to The Sun, Clarkson criticised those trying to reveal The Stig’s identity for “spoiling everyone’s fun”.

He added that the unmasking of The Stig has become so bizarre that "even Top Gear researchers are being followed by the paparazzi."

Clarkson admitted that while there were indeed many Stigs used for photographs, only one is allowed to race around the Top Gear track.

"I've decided it's time to come clean. For still photographs, there are indeed many Stigs. But there is only one who is ever allowed to drive round the track."

He then mocked the ongoing witch hunt for the The Stig saying, "And - here goes - it's the BBC royal reporter Nicholas Witchell. I know. I know. It's a big surprise but there you are. And now you know, I'm afraid he will have to be dropped from a Hercules transport plane and killed."

Clarkson then continued to ridicule rumour mongers by adding some of his own hints at who The Stig could be.

"They're wrong. There is no single Stig. There are four. The main one is Damon Hill. It's Tiff Needell. No it's not. I've got a mate who knows for sure it's Michael Schumacher," wrote Clarkson.
