Cars: New-models tsunami hits SA

We're only five months into 2012 but South Africa has seen more than 40 new vehicles arrive on our shores.

In May manufacturers have flooded the local motoring industry with more than 20 models. In the first two weeks of the month we were treted to Audi’s new A1 Sportback.

The German automakers continued their model assault with a new DSG auto gearbox for VW's popular Jetta and Golf. French automakers eager to grab their share of the limelight launched a series of new vehicles in SA beginning with the stylish new Citroen DS5.

Renault enthralled petrol heads at the 2012 Knysna hill climb weekend with its blistering Megane RS Trophy 265 as well as debuting the facelifted Koleos and Scenic.

From the east, Toyota has adopted a budget-friendly ethos with its Etios sedan/hatchback as well as the new Aygo. After suffering several delays, rival Japanese automaker Honda finally showcased its new Civic.

As the month draws to a close we’ve highlighted three important models launched from May 28 to date:
