Bribe backfires for 'L'-driver

A 47-year-old man from Muizenberg, Cape Town has been arrested for allegedly trying to bribe a driving licence examiner.

He had failed the test twice.

At the beginning of a test in September the applicant presented the examiner with R1000, which was declined.

BRIBE ON THE DASHBOARD

"The suspect made repeated offers but the examiner refused them and proceeded with the test," traffic services spokesman Kevin Jacobs said.

During the test, the cash was placed on the dashboard.

The examiner failed the applicant for exceeding the maximum number of penalty points in the yard test. The examiner then collected the cash and escorted the man to testing centre officials.

The suspect was placed arrested for attempting to bribe an officer.
