A 13-year-old boy was fighting for his life in hospital after falling off the back of a moving bakkie in Tembisa on Monday, Johannesburg paramedics said.

Netcare911 spokesman Chris Botha said the accident occurred along Zuurfontein road.

"The [boy] suffers from epilepsy, he was travelling towards Tembisa on the back of the vehicle when he had a seizure.

"He fell off the moving bakkie and landed head first on the roadway," Botha said.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the child had sustained severe head injuries.

"He was placed on a ventilator and airlifted to hospital."
