JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are still investigating housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi's "blue light" driver after a collision with Thomas Ferreira, 18, in 2011.
"The case is ongoing and the investigation is continuing. We will have a court date once a date is assigned by the court," a police spokesperson said. "We sent them the docket and once a date is assigned we will be able to proceed with the case."
CASE OPENED
Ferreira was badly injured in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, on the first weekend of November in a collision with Mmemezi's car which allegedly drove through a red light with its blue lights flashing. A case of reckless or negligent driving had been opened against the driver, Semitsi Modomai.
At that time Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane publicly promised to cover the costs of the teenager's medical bills. That hasn't happened and Mokonyane's spokesperson directed all queries to the housing department's Mongezi Mnyani, who could not be reached.
Ferreira's rehabilitation is apparently costing about R120 000 a month.
