Kia’s latest generation Picanto, following its debut at the 2011 Geneva auto show and local introduction in July, has quickly established itself as a favourite.
If the cute and compact Kia Picanto was cute before, the new model launched earlier this year continues to capture imaginations.
Locally, the Picanto’s had a proper go at the entry-level segment. The top-spec 1.2 EX model was nominated as a 2012 SA Car of the Year finalist – see the full list and vote for your favourite, here.
iF DESIGN AWARD
Further afield, the Picanto three-door was recently honoured with an iF Design award, which recognises design quality, workmanship, the level of innovativeness and a car’s eco-friendliness. The first three-door in the Picanto range, it is not yet available in South Africa.
The iF product design award, reportedly one of the world’s largest design contests, was launched in 1953. For 2012, a total of 2924 products were registered in 16 categories: Kia’s Picanto was honoured in the Transportation Design category (which includes ships, trains and aircraft).
This is the fourth iF product design award in three years, following prizes for the Venga B-segment MPV (in 2010) and Sportage SUV and Optima sedan (both in 2011).
