BMW lines attractions for JHB show

Tom Cruise is unlikely to put in an appearance at the Johannesburg International auto show from October 6-16, but his co-star in the next 'Mission Impossible' movie will.

The film's star is the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car. It's the latest in BMW's line of “green” supercars and is due to hit markets in 2013. Featuring a three-cylinder turbodiesel and two electric motors, it has 262kW and 800Nm of torque.

While sprinting from 0-100 in 4.8 seconds and doing 250km/h, it produces less CO2 than a family hatchback at 99g/km and exudes frugality, achieving 3.76/100km.

M5 - THE STEALTH MACHINE

The BMW M5 will also make its presence felt after debuting at the Shanghai auto show early in 2011. The M5 has the understated looks of the genre that makes it a stealth machine.

It carries a mean 4.4 V8 with M TwinPower Turbo tech that produces 412kW and 680Nm of torque, topping it up by doing 0-100 in 4.4 seconds.

BMW will also introduce the new 1 Series and Mini models. The Mini's main attraction will be the Paceman Concept car, which blends coupe looks with sports activity vehicle functionality and kart-like handling and style. It will be joined by the Mini Coupe with its crashhelmet-inspired roof.
