Wheels24's Alternative Car of the Year awards has gone from strength to strength since we started poking gentle fun at cars and their owners back in 2009.
Vehicles are tools to transport us from A to B but somehow we've taken it upon ourselves to personalise our rides. If what you drive is a reflection of your personality then we've narrowed it down to three categories: Jock, Chop and Frock.
JOCK CARS
These vehicles are for the manne; the ones who would rather be bundu bashing or clocking up lap times on a racetrack.
Our winner for the manliest car of 2010 goes to:
The Volkswagen Amarok with 53% of the votes. VW's Amarok is hell-bent on taking on its Japanese competitors in SA bakkie market. Definitely one for the manne... here's how the others scored from our 2618 respondents from across the country.
BMW 5 Series - 8%
Opel Astra - 14%
Jaguar XJ - 14%
Honda CR-Z - 9%
CHOP CARS
Our Chop cars categories are for those among us who treat roads like speedways and indicators as optional extras. A driver of this, er, calibre should have a vehicle that matches his/her gusto. The winner of our Chop car category is:
Ford's blistering Focus RS with 42% of the votes. Drivers of the Ford Focus RS may be more at home at gym pumping iron but there's no denying that this hot hatch is the ultimate boy racer's ride. The others scored...
Audi TT-RS - 11%
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 28%
Porsche Cayenne - 10%
Lexus LX570 - 7%
FROCK CARS
To end our 2010 ACOTY awards we bring you our Frock car winner. These are the cars that are suited to anyone who’s more at home being fabulous and, as such, needs a vehicle to much a loud and proud personality.
Our 2010 Belle of the Vehicular Ball goes to:
The Peugeot RCZ with 49% of the votes. Instantly lovable and a deceiving brute once you slide behind the wheel; the RCZ is Peugeot's answer to the Audi TT. The others scored...
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet - 19%
Citroen DS3 - 17%
Porsche 911 Turbo - 5%
Renault Laguna Coupe - 7%
Thanks to all of you who took the time and trouble to vote and from the list we randomly chose one winner. So let's not forget our competition winner (drumroll please): It's Henno du Preez of Pietermaritzburg!
The prize is a fantastic Jacques Lemans F1 watch worth R3 450.
