Got a new BMW X3 but now want it to look like more than a just a mini-X5? BMW tuner-supreme AC Schnitzer might just have the remedy...
The current X3 has been available in South Africa since the end of 2010 but Schnitzer’s tuning additions add just the right amount of pizazz.
The performance upgrade for the turbodiesel xDrive20d increases power to 163kW and the company has a similar upgrade planned for the bigger-engined xDrive30d.
A stainless-steel sports exhaust is in the works for the six-cylinder petrol 2.8i and 3.5i models that the tuner promises will improve response along with supplying a sonorous soundtrack. A chromed "Racing" tailpipe is available for diesel engines to help them look the part, though.
ATHLETIC ACCENTS
Along with engine upgrades comes a suspension spring kit to combine performance with driving comfort. An aerodynamic kit for the new X3 adds front and rear spoilers and a protective film for the rear skirt.
In the cabin, athletic accents take the form of aluminium, chromed and black finishes for the gear-shifter, digital display housing and cover for the iDrive control system. These are matched to an aluminium pedal set and velour floor mats.
To complete the package, the right wheels and tyres are a must and Schnitzer has given the X3 a choice of racing rims (some forged) in two-tone or silver in sizes ranging from 18" to 22".
