More than 6000 unroadworthy public transport and freight vehicles were pulled off the roads during October.
That's according to the Road Traffic Management Corporation which announced on Wednesday that more than 1800 of the offending vehicles were from Mpumalanga and included buses, mini-buses and trucks.
HOLIDAY PREPARATIONS
More than 46 000 notices of prosecution were issued to public transport and freight drivers during the same month and 1460 driver were arrested - 196 to face a charge of driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in their blood.
The department said it was all part of pre-December holiday operations.
