2015 SA Car of Year finalists named

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - The 11 finalists for the 2015 South African Car of the Year (Coty) competition have been named during a function at the Inanda Polo Club in Gauteng.

The list follows a poll/vote by 29 members of the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists of an original list of 40 cars, whittled down to 20 semi-finalists. The guild has run the competition since 1986.

So here (in alphabetical order) are the 11 finalists which will be tested and compared over two days in early March 2015:

 Audi A3 Sedan 1.4T SE S Tronic
 BMW M4 Coupe Auto

GEROTEK TEST

During the two evaluation days – the most critical of which will be at the Gerotek test facility west of Pretoria – jury members will assess the cars independently with routes and modules designed to resemble everyday use.

According to the guild, the cars will be judged on following will criteria; aesthetics, build quality, ergonomics, fuel consumption, environmental friendliness, safety features and value for money.

Judges will have access to independent performance test data, comparative pricing and specifications, as well as comparative parts prices.

A release from guild says: "While all are deemed to represent outstanding automotive engineering, there can be only one winner and that model will epitomise all-round automotive excellence – the sole criteria for the Car of the Year."

The winner will be revealed at a function on March 18 2015.
