Gotcha! The next VW Touareg. (Photo: Francois Malan)
Wheels24 reader Francois Malan has spied the next VW Touareg in the Death Valley National Park, in the United States. Francois managed to snap the 2011 Touareg, and sent us his photos.
His spy photos show a heavily-camouflaged Touareg undergoing hot-weather testing in the US.
According to reports the newTouareg will be about 300kg lighter than the current model, but larger too, while it will be available with a third row of seats. The Touareg’s styling will mimic that of other new generations VWs such as the Golf, Polo and Scirocco.
Though the shape of the vehicle Francois spotted appears similar to the current Touareg, it should leaner and less bulky.
The new VW Touareg will come with both a 3.6 liter V6 and a 4.2 liter V8 engine, while a range of TDIs will be available too.
The big news is a hybrid model which will feature a 3.0-litre V6 mated to an electric motor. The Touareg hybrid will get a supercharged, direct-injection V6 (TSI) developing 245 kW and 440 Nm of torque. The electric motor will boost it with an extra 38 kW and an extra 300 Nm torque.
Wheels24 would like to thank Francois Malan for sending us his photos of the Touareg.
