The next all-new 1 Series BMW should make its appearance in 2011 and prototypes of the new car have already been spotted in Germany.
Spotted: Next BMW 1 Series
In the early stages of its development, the prototype is shown here sporting a very eye-catching, if unflattering, disguise to fool the public. And while its appearance is left to the imagination, BMW has revealed a few details about its new hatchback.
According to reports, the manufacturer has said it may follow a similar tack as it has with its X6 and X5 GT models by including a "shooting brake model". For 1 Series, this will likely take the form of a longer-length wagon variant that could comfortably seat adult passengers in the rear.
Engines are expected to range from 1.4-litres to 3.0-litres with turbocharged versions on the cards, too. Greener models in the form of a new generation diesels and a hybrid version are also expected to form part of the new lineup. However, an M version of the 1 Series is unlikely to be included.
