Take a look at Mercedes-McLaren's uber-cabriolet. The sensational SLR may be nearing the end of its life-cyle, but don't expect it to go softly into the night...
This special edition SLR 722 Roadster will likely boast the same supercharged 5.4-litre V8 powerplant and rear-wheel drive configuration as the rest of its 722 ilk.
According to reports, power output of 485 kW and a torque figure in excess of 800 Nm are identical to the 722 Coupe. The roadster is expected to sprint to 100 km/h in a whiplash-inducing three seconds.
These images of the undisguised roadster were ostensibly snapped at the manufacturer's AMG facility, judging by all the AMGs littering the parking area.
Giveaway styling cues include the red brake calipers and oversized brake discs partially obscured by grey 19-inch forged alloy wheels, the carbon fibre lip spoiler and smoked taillight clusters - all seen on the 722 Coupe.
The biggest difference, though, is that this version of the SLR has a canvas roof that takes a supercar-like 10 seconds to retract.
The SLR 722 Roadster is expected to go on sale in Europe early in 2009.
