Mercedes-Benz is working on its next CLK cabriolet and these images show that it will, for the first time, have a retractable hardtop.
The very visible joint between the windshield frame and the front edge of the roof are the most telling details. However, the wider disguise at the C-pillar and the longer boot lid also add credence to the hardtop argument.
Bigger than the current model, the CLK will again be based on the C-Class sedan's platform although this will be tweaked to meet the expectations of "more ambitious" coupe and cabriolet drivers.
Engines will also be sourced from the C-Class lineup and will likely include another V8 for the CLK500.
The coupe is expected to be released first, with cabriolet models following a few months later.
