Volkswagen is planning to unveil the next generation of its volume-selling Polo at next year's Geneva Motor Show or at the Frankfurt show in September 2009.
The all-new Polo will utilise the VW groupe's PQ25 platform which is also used for the new Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia. Audi's upcoming A2 baby will also use this platform.
The Polo is facing increasing competition from other small hatches such as the Mazda2. Ford is also due to unveil its new Fiesta soon.
The newcomer will feature styling cues from VW's Scirocco and the Up! concept car.
Apparently the new Polo's engine range will reflect that of the rest of VW's line-up, which means it will get the 1.4-litre TFSI unit, while 1.2 and 1.0-litre units are also on the cards. VW is also developing an new 1.6-litre TDI engine for the Polo and other VW products.
Expect to see the carmaker's new seven-speed DSG gearbox in the Polo range too.
