Fresh images have emerged of Mercedes-Benz's champion roadster preparing for the next phase in its life. The latest images show the third generation SLK, which is only due for release from around 2012, undergoing further testing. Although the prototype remains heavily disguised, it is clear that the new car will have a front grille and headlight cluster that is more upright than before. It will also lose the F1-inspired front end that so polarised the opinions of SLK traditionalists. Some of the new SLK's improvements include daytime driving lights, redesigned door handles and bigger mirrors mounted on the doors. And the sports car's signature folding metal roof will again be a standard feature.
