Three years before its official unveiling we have the pictures that show Mercedes is hard at work in preparing the third generation SLK. These latest spy pictures show the car testing at the Nürburgring.
Though the prototype is still heavily disguised, it’s yet visible that front grille and headlights will be more upright and than those of the current model – probably mimicking that of the upcoming SLS super car. The 2012 SLK will also lose the Formula-One-inspired nose the current model has.
Daytime running lights, Mercedes’ new door handles and the bigger mirrors “standing” on the door rather than being mounted in front of the side window will feature as well. And of course, the folding metal roof will be standard again, too.
Power will come from normally aspirated petrol V6 engines and small turbo units. A diesel SLK might be on the cards too. We could also see the rumoured 3.5-litre V6 twin turbo with 350kW making its way into an AMG version.
