BMW has announced plans to build its new Mini Roadster and Mini Coupe models at its Cowley plant, near Oxford.
The move will create new jobs at the plant, which is already operating close to full capacity. Cowley is one of the UK's largest manufacturing plants, with over 200 000 units due to be produced this year.
The models are only at concept stage at present, so full production won't start for a couple of years. The plant currently employs 4 000 workers and the new models would need an entirely new production line, which in turn could create thousands of jobs.
The Mini Coupe will be based on the Coupe concept car, which is due to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.
