Volkswagen is to unveil the GTI version of its new Polo at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. And word on the street is that it is to have proper GTI credentials this time around.
It will feature the same 1.4-litre super- and turbo-charged four-cylinger TSI as the new Ibiza Cupra, which will make it the fastest Polo to date. Thanks to 130 kW and 249 Nm the new Polo GTI will have a top speed of 225 km/h.
A six-speed manual will come standard, with a seven speed automatic dual-clutch also available.
Furthermore rumour has it that the hot Polo will be “greenest” GTI derivative yet with an expected average fuel consumption of 7 litres/100km, and an emissions output of 150g/km.
Exterior styling will be similar to the new Golf GTI, with cues such as a black honeycomb grille wrapped in a red line and an aerodynamic body kit.
