Cape Town - As much as I love fast cars, I'm a sucker for vans, bakkies or huge SUVs. Ford's new Tourneo Connect mini-van is in a league of its own.
When you have a large family, you're always on the go and to go and plenty of boot space is needed. With sky-high fuel prices, efficiency is key.
Ford's Tourneo Connect has a utility version as well known as the Transit Connect, but the Connect is a people-mover and is as practical as they come.
1 litre EcoBoost
The Tourneo can be powered by either a 1.0 litre EcoBoost or a 1.6 litre engine. I drove the 1.0 litre but hardly felt like it was powered a three-cylinder unit as it's capable of 74kW/170Nm mated to a six-speed manual. That's impressive considering the Tourneo is a reasonably large vehicle.
It has a claimed fuel consumption of 5.6 litres/100km and 129g/km CO2 emissions. Top speed is claimed at 165km/h.
