Ford Odyssey: And the winner is...

The 10 contestants in the Ford Ranger Odyssey Africa 2013 are back in South Africa after a gruelling 22-day drive covering 7860km through six countries.

The participants undertook humanitarian projects along the way but also battled each other for the ultimate prize – a special-edition Ford Ranger.

AND THE WINNER IS

The convoy began its journey in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 23 and completed on July 14 at the Hartebeespoort Dam in the North West.

After the adventure, contestant Alex Cruickshanks has won the keys to a Odyssey-edition Ranger 3.2 XLT 4x4.

Cruickshanks said: “From inception, Kenya showed us the spirit of "Harambee" (let us all pull together) and it set the bar that grew to become the unspoken mantra of the Odyssey.

“The group was incredibly diverse, yet somehow our differences complimented each other like a puzzle and we performed as a unit - everyone contributing to the overall success that is the showcase of the Ford Ranger and its unrivalled abilities.

“The Odyssey has revealed the diverse, unprecedented beauty of my mother continent, altered my perspective of life drastically and filled me with the confidence to pursue my dreams of adventure using the Odyssey as a platform.”

'WELCOME TO THE FORD FAMILY'

Ford South Africa’s marketing manager Gavin Golightly said: “Alex is not only an extremely skilled, but also a very calm individual who works well in a team.”

“The feedback we have received from the judges on Alex’s abilities, his attitude and unshakeable temperament makes us confident that the right person won. As the winner of the inaugural Ford Ranger Odyssey Africa, we are proud to welcome Alex to the Ford family as a brand ambassador, Ranger owner and friend.

“We would also like to extend our congratulations to all the contestants who participated in this epic journey. We’re proud and impressed by every one of you and look forward to having you as members of our family for years to come. ”
