Honda's CR-Z Mugen rated RR

Hybrids and electric vehicles are the way of the future and if we don't want to further destroy the earth, we'll ultimately have to change our perceptions.

Unfortunately a common factor amongst green-friendly vehicles is their often bland vehicle designs. Honda's CR-Z is probably the best looking of the hybrid bunch available at the moment and turning arm Mugen has produced its stylish update to the Japanese marque's hybrid - The CR-Z Mugen RR concept.

The design concept was unveiled in July 2011 in the Moving Motor Show area at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new model was built to compliment the high-performance CR-Z Mugen.

Built in partnership with M-Tec in Japan, the Mugen RR sports major styling changes as well as racing inspired tweaks to give the vehicle sporty appeal and more agility.

The concept vehicle has a carbon-fibre underbody, a twin central-exit exhaust, vented front bumpers and race-developed suspension. To improve agility, Mugen has also replaced many of the original CR-Z parts including the bonnet, passenger doors and boot with carbon fibre alternatives.

TRACK INSPIRED

The orange four-piston monobloc brake calipers and forged 18-inch alloy wheels both complement the vibrant new paint job.

Inside, the seats are clad in colour-coded leather/Alcantara and an information screen has been added. The new information unit has the ability to record chassis and engine data as well as house a satellite navigation and audio system.

BOLD AND STYLISH: The new CR-Z Mugen RR looks decidely more assertive in its new orange paint job, at least compared with the original.

This new kit will enable the vehicle to monitor itself over two laps in order to “learn” a circuit route. The data is then recorded and utilising vehicle tracking GPS, drivers will be able to monitor and compare performance over previous laps.

The CR-Z Mugen RR is a once-off model and neither Honda nor Mugen have any plans to put the it into production.
