BERLIN, Germany - BMW will shuffle around its model line-up as it plans to add two numbers to its range – namely 2 and 4.
The 3 Series coupe and convertible will be sold as the 4 Series and the 1 Series coupe and convertible will become the 2 Series.
In 2012 our spies captured the new 4 Series undergoing testing. In 2013 they’ve managed to brave frigid conditions to bring us images of the 2 Series cabriolet and coupe.
XDRIVE SYSTEM FOR 2
The models will be based on the 1 Series from which it will borrow its technology and engine line-up. As for the design, BMW has promised to make its 2 Series a little sportier. The model will only receive four-cylinder engines for now.
The engine line-up will consist of a two-litre petrol tuned to 111kW, 131kW or 162kW. There’s also a two-litre turbocharged diesel capable of 160kW.
Engines will drive through either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto. BMW’s xDrive system will be available as an option on the 2 Series.
The BMW 2 Series cabriolet and coupe is set to be unveiled in 2014.
