VW T5 Kombi boosted to 144kW

Volkswagens T5 multivans have been given a serious styling and performance upgrade by renowned VW tuner Abt.

Usually considered nothing other than a capacious and supremely comfortable family or light commercial vehicle for transit, with the ABT T5 Sports Plus package, the dynamics and aesthetics of the T5 range of vans is dramatically improved.

Most striking is the body kit which contains a font spoiler, grille treatment, fog lamp inserts, side- and rear skirts and the obligatory rear wing. Eagle eyed enthusiast should also be able to notice the Abt 4-pipe rear muffler.

Huge 19-inch wheels rolling forward on 255/40 ZR tyres round off the conspicuous appearance of the Abt T5 range. The 19-inch mags can be ordered either in diamond of a high gloss polish finish.

Beyond the exterior styling changed, there are significant enhancements to the engine range too. Both the 1.9- and 2.5TDI turbodiesel engines have seen power boosts.

The 81kW 1.9 has been boosted to 96kW, whilst both the 96kW and 128kW 2.5 versions have been boosted to 118kW and 144kW respectively.

Ensuring the extra power is safely delivered to the road is an upgraded spring damper set. Celebrating the sixtieth birthday of the design birth of the original Volkswagen Kombi, the Abt T5 Sport Plus package is set to be available until December 31, 2007.
