VW and Audi tuning specialist, ABT, couldn’t resist kitting out the latest Polo in contemporary hot hatch for this year's Frankfurt auto showThe Allgaeu based tuner has embellished the Polo’s surfacing with a new rear skirt set (housing dual 84mm chrome mufflers) and hatchdoor mounted wing spoiler.Styling and grip are simultaneously shored up by 18-inch Titanium-look finished ABT Z-series alloy wheels rolling either Continental Sport 3 or Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres 215/35 in size.Improving the Polo’s hot hatch handling credentials even further is an ABT spring set, lowering front axle ride height by 25mm and the aft axle clearance by 30mm.Simple alloys, garish graphics. ABT's keynote additions give the Polo pseudo hot-hatch validity. Mellow power upgradesWith styling credentials certified by those oversized wheels and the subtle bodykit, ABT has ensured their Polo package has the requisite urgency in terms of throttle response too, with a series of power upgrades.ABT’s technicians have meticulously recalibrated the ECU parameters and fitted free-flow exhaust plumbing to four Polo engine derivates – a petrol and three compression ignition options. The direct injection 1.2 TSI engine is boosted from 77- to 96kW, which in conjunction with its seven-speed DSG transmission should render a highly entertaining drive. All three compression ignition upgrades centre on the 1.6 TDI engine, available in three states of tune as a stock unit.Entry level power upgrade with the diesel Polo is a boost from 55- to 66kW, followed by a mid-range 66- to 81kW tweak. Headlining ABT’s 1.6 TDI power options is a 77- to 96kW boost, matching the 1.2 TSI treatment - ironically. Cabin changes include an ABT floor mat set and embellished shifter top.
