If you’re really wealthy and not quite good enough to pilot a single seater at speed Lamborghini has a deal for you. It’s a single-make racing series featuring the company’s fantastically manic Gallardo LP 560-4 performance car. Although named in typically over elaborate Italian style - Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – the car is essentially a lightweight Gallardo with some racing livery. The first competition of the 2009 provisional calendar will run on 3 May at Silverstone Circuit in the UK, followed by Adria in Italy on 17 May; Nuremburg’s Norisring in Germany on 5 July; Spa in Belgium on 2 August; Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on 20 September; and culminating on 4 October in Monza, Italy. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will run over European race weekends alongside other prestigious series such as the FIA GT Championship, DTM and FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship)Though the cars are hardly cheap at €200 00 a piece, you do get a 419kW V10, a kerb weight trimmed down to 1300kg and performance biased all-wheel drive. The trick double-wishbone suspension has been significantly tinkered with and Pirelli technicians ensure the slick tyres offer optimum grip for each car. The Super Trofeo cars have been garnished with the regulation pseudo racing aerodynamic add-on: a large, fixed rear wing keep the tail in check in fast corners. The cockpit features an ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialized instruments.
