ABT magic boosts S4 to 320kW

Audi’s latest S4 (due locally soon) is a very quick small executive saloon. ABT doesn’t seem to think so though.

Hans-Juergen Abt’s technical boys have taken the A4 based performance saloon and tricked it out with more power and better gas expelling acoustics.

Although most performance enthusiasts would hardly complain about the stock S4’s 245kW power output or 440Nm rotational force peak, ABT believes a fast Audi four-door should never make do with less than 300kW.

The logic might seemed a bit skewed, but you just know people are going to benchmark S4 against the outgoing RS4’s naturally aspirated V8 (309kW), at least until the new RS4 arrives.

To correct the power discrepancy ABT’s engineers have fiddled with the S4’s ECU parameters, fitted a custom-made free-flow exhaust system (finished in stainless steel) and subsequently boosted power by 75kW and torque by 80Nm.

Unleashing all this latent power from the 3l TFSI V6 engine enables the ABT S4 to sprint from 0-100km/h in only 4.6 seconds, which is right in RS4 heritage performance territory.

ABT is kind enough to disable the mandatory 250km/h speed limited too, which should see you topping out at 282km/h.

Driving all four wheels through the stock seven-speed DSG gearbox, the combination of dual-clutch shifting swiftness and 520Nm of peak torque make ABT’s S4 a compelling alternative – or intermediary choice – until the new RS4 comes along.

Oh, and you positively must have one with those optional 20-inch, five-blade, dual-spoke BR alloy wheels – which are of ABT’s own design and diamond-cut to perfection.
