A rare Ferrari 550 Maranello ‘World Speed Record’ edition will be offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions at its upcoming 'Sale of Ferraris' in association with the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain on May 18th  at Silverstone Circuit.

The highly collectable sports car is one of just 10 right-hand drive models of a total of 33 special editions built by Ferrari to commemorate the world speed records set by a modified 550 Maranello in Ohio in 1998.

A record breaker

The special edition model was built to the exact specification of the record breaking car which set the records for driving 160km at an average speed of 306km, driving for one hour at an average speed of 296km/h and also covering 100km at 304km/h.

The ‘WSR’ edition features a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine with Bosch Motronic fuel injection mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Immaculate and packed with features

Special features include the Fiorano handling pack, leather-trimmed roll cage, suede-covered steering wheel, carbon bucket seats with Daytona stitching and race harnesses, as well as a ‘WSR' commemorative plaque. The exterior features Scuderia wing shields, sports exhaust and Corsa brake callipers.

This particular example was delivered new by Stratstone of Wilmslow on 1 March 2000 finished in Grigio Titanio with a Bordeaux leather interior. It has remained in the UK ever since as part of a significant private collection where it has been residing since 2014.

During this period it has been looked after by the knowledgeable team at Italia Autosport, with regular servicing any maintenance, including a recent major service and cambelt change carried out in October 2017.

With 68 857km recorded it will be offered at the auction with a sales estimate of R2.3-million to R2.8-million.

The car will be offered for sale accompanied by an Italia Autosport condition report, the original books and manuals and leather wallet, Ferrari toolkit, two keys and three alarm fobs.
