Cape Town - Volkswagen's Golf 7 has been on-sale in South Africa since 2013 and is a consistent performer in local sales.

In November 2016, the company has unveiled its updated Golf range.

The Golf forms part of, VW says, "new and greatest product offensive ever" with many new models planned from 2017.

Headed for SA

According to VWSA "The local launch is planned for the second quarter of 2017. We will most likely keep a similar model line up." Expect local details to emerge closure to its SA launch.

The updated Golf in enhanced throughout. Both the exterior and interior receive major tweaks while mechanically it gains new engines and an improved transmission.

The enhanced model also gains a new infotainment system and uprated safety technology.

A VW icon

To herald the arrival of the eighth-gen Golf, VW has been published a series of videos highlighting the preceding generations of Golf, starting with the very first edition in 1974.

The series ends off with the current Golf which has been a huge success for the automaker.

An eighth video compiles all the best from the videos into one video that summarises the development of the 'people's car'.
