LONDON, England - A classic-car treasure trove of moe than 100 rare vehicles, among them Porsches, Triumphs and a Ford Model T, will be sold unless their mystery owner can be found.
According to the UK's Daily Mail the fleet, consisting of 105 rare British and American vehicles, was abandoned at a mansion in Staffordshire, central England, in July 2011 when the tenant was evicted for not paying the rent.
CLASSICS LEFT BEHIND
Mark Greaves, who owns the land, says unless the owner coughs up the R1.5-million bill for storing them the cars will be auctioned. "We had a tenant who was evicted for non-payment. To start with there were about 140 cars but I think he took the best with him. He was interested in vintage cars and became a bit of a collector, but he left most behind."
The collection includes British vehicles such as a Jensen Interceptor, Humber Sceptre and Super Snipe and two Triumph Stags. Then there's a Porsche 911, a Model T dating back a century, two Lancia Fulvias, a German NSU sports car, Austin Mini and Morris Minor pick-ups, a Ford Cortina soft top and an Escort RS 2000.
Greaves has sent out a public notification to inform the owner of his plans to sell the cars unless they are claimed by December 19, 2012, the Mail said.
Greaves said: "I thought he had taken the vehicles of most value. I gave him lots of time to come and collect them. I sent emails and made phone calls but so far I have heard nothing back.
"If they remain unclaimed we will look at auctioning them off as one group or selling them to a dealer."
