Chevrolet has widened its involvement in soccer with the announcement that the automaker is entering a four-year agreement with Liverpool Football Club as the team's official automotive partner.

The deal will showcase Chevrolet at Anfield, Liverpool's home ground, in the team's publications and websites.

The announcement came after General Motors announced in 2012 that Chevrolet had inked a five-year sponsorship deal with Manchester United, the world's most popular soccer club, and also created the Chevrolet China Cup.

The deals could give Chevrolet a chance to reach potential customers globally as it works to grow in emerging markets.

Chevrolet marketing vice president Chris Perry said in a statement: "Liverpool supporters from around the world are known for their undying love of their side. Our relationship with Liverpool FC extends beyond the traditional boundaries of sponsorship and is about engaging with supporters."

The agreement runs through the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League and European seasons.
