CARACAS, Venezuela - A Venezuelan couple have been fined the equivalent of R13 000 for getting a bit too frisky in their vehicle, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The case has rankled Venezuelans, inhabitants of one of the world's most crime-ridden countries, who grouse that the time and effort spent prosecuting the lovers might have been put to better use catching thieves and robbers.
INDECENT ACTS
The case stems from a romantic interlude in November 2012 when the couple steamed up the windows of their Chevrolet Malibu in a park. According to a statement, the lovers were charged by observant police with engaging in "indecent acts".
Municipal prosecutor Daniel Alvarado took the case to court. The couple were ordered to pay an 8400 bolivars (the equivalent to R13 000) fine - about three months' pay for a minimum-wage employee in the country.
