Renault's Clio is the most successful model in the French automaker's South African model line-up with more than 40 000 sold since 2000. Now the Clio, launched locally in 2006, has a Mk.III entry model, a connectivity package and an improved service plan.
The budget 1.6 Clio Yahoo! and Yahoo Plus models will retail for less than R170 000. The 1.6 engine in all Clios can make 83kW at 6000rpm and 151Nm at 4250rpm.
A five-speed manual is standard on the Yahoo!, Yahoo! Plus and Avantage (replaces the former range-topping Dynamique). The Avantage is also available with a four-speed auto.
ENTRY-LEVEL DETAILS
Fuel consumption is rated at 6.7 litres/100km (manual), 7.5 for the auto.
The "connected" range includes Parrot Bluetooth on the entry Yahoo! and Yahoo! Plus and extends to the latest TomTom satnav on the top-spec Avantage.
The entry Yahoo! has aircon, cruise control, central locking, power front windows and external mirrors, a folding rear seat and adjustable steering wheel. The audio system includes an MP3-compatible CD/radio unit with an auxiliary cable socket and Bluetooth.
The Clio Yahoo! has body-colour bumpers and two-tone mirrors and rides on 15" steel rims with 185/65 R15 tyres. Inside, the budget Clio sports white door releases and vents, while the front seats are embroidered with a custom design.

The mid-ranged Yahoo! Plus gains multi-spoke 15" alloy rims with 185/65 R15 tyres, front fog lights, a roof aerofoil and leather on the steering wheel and gear-shifter.
GAINING THE ADVANTAGE
The top-of-the-range Avantage (no, there's no letter D) has auto aircon, wipers and headlights, aluminium door releases and 16" alloy rims with 195/50 R16 tyres.
The Avantage also has TomTom satnav with a 15cm colour screen and SA maps. The Live services offer traffic reports and weather forecasts. The system includes an 80W RadioSat Classic audio system with six speakers, an MP3-compatible radio/CD player and iPod and USB connectivity.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
All four models can be accessorised with metallic paint, sport body kit, rear spoiler, sport exhaust, fog lights, roof bars, parking radar, tow hitch, TomTom navigation (where not standard), external digital storage devices and customised audio systems.
