<b>ROBIN CARLISLE:</b> Laws to take on corruption.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Provincial Road Traffic Act has been passed by the provincial legislature to clean up corruption.
Western Cape MEC for transport Robin Carlisle explained in a weekend statement: "I can now carry out investigations at any vehicle or driving licence testing centre without permission from the national transport department. This will greatly assist in dealing with corruption and jailing the offenders."
BLUE-LIGHT RULES, OK?
He said by January 2013 the department would have published conditions for the use of blue lights in the province.
Carlisle said blue lights would only be used in emergency situations.
"I will also issue a regulation requiring all vehicles overtaking cyclists to ensure that there is a safe distance of at least 1.5m between them before passing."
The act was passed on Thursday.
