HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND ON FUEL? Drive South Africa's fuel-cost calculator can provide a more accurate view of your monthly fuel budget. Image: Drive South Africa
Vehicle rental specialist Drive South Africa has launched a monthly fuel-cost calculator to help drivers budget their fuel expenses.
The app works out how much you will spend on fuel and how much more (or less) you will spend (or save) compared to a previous month.
Drive SA said: “Budget-conscious households can use the tool to re-allocate funds between their expense accounts on a monthly basis, depending on whether fuel costs are higher or lower.
“The total monthly fuel spend is based on the current fuel price as updated by South Africa’s department of energy on the first Wednesday of every month.”
'EVERYONE CAN USE IT'
Drive South Africa’s head of digital, Renier van Schalkwyk, said: “People think differently about the way they use fuel.
“Some people think about how many kilometres they’ve driven, how much money they’ve spent, how many times they’ve filled their tank this month, or how many litres they’ve used. So we decided to build the tool so that everybody could use it.”
“The idea of the calculator came about when we wanted to find a way to help our long-term car-rental clients calculate their monthly fuel cost. It was only when a few of our internal team members started using the calculator for their personal month-to-month budgeting that we realised every motorist could benefit from the fuel cost calculator.
That’s when we decided to create a microsite for the calculator and turn it into a web-based, responsive app which launched this week.”
HOW IT WORKS
• Enter your average number of refills per month
• Enter fuel tank size in litres
• Select fuel type
• Click on “Calculate fuel cost”
The tool provides four ways to calculate monthly fuel spend - refill, litres, rands and kilometres travelled.
