Bakkie horror: 1 killed, 9 injured

A passenger was killed when the bakkie he was travelling on collided with a truck on Nelson Mandela Drive on the outskirts of Middelburg.

The question again arises over when the government is going to enforce a ban on this type of transport for workers.

The bakkie, Arrive Alive reported, was turning into an intersecting street and the impact ejected all ten of its occupants.

OVERLOADING BAKKIES THE NORM

Paramedics reported that one passenger was killed and the rest suffered moderate injuries and were take to hospitals for further care.

Wheels24 editor LES STEPHENSON recorded an overloaded bakkie travelling along the N7 on the West Coast in 2013.

The eight passengers in the load bay were oblivious to the implications should there have been a collision; neither did they seem concerned about their safety.
