BMW's secret M2

2004-04-15 09:09

The new BMW M2, in coupé guise, will be launched in the next two years.

Following the German car manufacturer's revised naming strategy, the coupe and cabriolet models will carry the 2 Series designation.

It will take design cues from the new 1 Series, which is due to go on sale in South Africa later this year.

Little info is still available about the M2's engine and performance figures but insiders have hinted that it will feature a 3.6-litre 24-valve unit.

This naturally aspirated engine will have an expected power output of about 275kW.

The other models in the 2 Series line-up will share its engines with the 1 Series, which include 2-litre petrol and 2-lire diesel units.

BMW will launch the 2 Series in the second half of 2005.
