JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - Six people were killed and 10 injured in a head-on collision between a taxi and a bakkie on the N14 near Carletonville, south-west of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, found the two wrecked vehicles lying in the middle of the road when they arrived at the scene. It looked as if the bakkie had been ripped in half by the impact.
Paramedics found the bodies of six people, including a child, lying in the debris.
CLOSED THE ROAD
Ten other people were found scattered around the vehicles, their injuries ranging from minor to critical. While the paramedics treated the injured metro services closed off the road for safety reasons.
Three critically injured patients required advanced life-support treatment and were later taken by two ER24 helicopters and a third medical helicopter to hospital for further attention.
The remaining people were treated and taken to various hospitals.
Local authorities are investigating.
