SEPANG, Malaysia - Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo has been punished with a 10-place grid penalty for the April 6 Bahrain Formula 1 GP by the Malaysian GP race stewards for leaving the pits in an unsafe manner.
The Australian driver, who had been running fourth, pulled away from his pit box before his front left wheel was fully attached. His pit crew sprinted down the lane to push the car back to re-mount the wobbling wheel.
STILL CHASING POINTS
Ricciardo was also given a 10sec penalty during the race, from which retired after 49 of the 56 laps, leaving him still searching for his first points since joining the team for the 2014 season.
The 24-year-old was disqualified from second in his season-opening home race in Melbourne two weeks earlier because of an allegedly illegal fuel-flow rate.
The team has appealed against the decision. A hearing is scheduled for April 14 2014 in Paris.
