Cape Town - Lexus South Africa has confirmed that its LC 500 coupe will arrive in South Africa in the first quarter of 2017.
The LC 500 started life as an LF-LC concept back in 2012, and although there were no plans to produce it at the time, Lexus says it had to change its mind after potential buyers expressed interest.
The LC coupe will be shown from June 23-26 at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Intriguing story
Lexus says the production version is hardly different from the concept, with supercar-like proportions and a V8 engine driving the rear wheels through a ten-speed automatic gearbox.

Lexus says chief engineer Koji Sato and chief designer Tadao Mori headed up their teams in an unprecedented collaboration, embracing new technologies and advanced materials alongside established Lexus manufacturing traditions such as the hand-and-eye skills of the Takumi craftspeople.
Surpassing obstacles
President of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, according to Lexus, set a challenge to the development groups to produce this special car, by focusing on elements such as: manufacturing, design, material, and dynamic obstacles that could typically compromise a vehicle’s targets or design vision.
