Cape Town - New features, design tweaks, all-wheel drive... Volkswagen's second-generation Tiguan is headed for South Africa.
Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) confirms its new Tiguan is set to arrive towards the end of 2016. It's the first Volkswagen SUV to be based on the automaker's modular transverse matrix (MQB).
The new model, VWSA says, "kicks off the comprehensive SUV offensive by Volkswagen".
Strong basis
Internationally the Tiguan is offered with 1.4-litre TSI (93kW) and 2.0-litre TSI (133kW, 7-speed DSG) petrol units, in front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
On the diesel front, it utilises 1.6-litre TDI (85kW) and 2.0-litre TDI (110kW, 133kW, 160kW) engines; available in FWD and with VW's 4MOTION AWD system.
It also offers 29mm extra rear knee room and 615 litres of boot space (1655L with the rear seats folded flat). The 160kW diesel 4x4 has a towing capacity of 2500kg.
Engine line-up and prices for the South African market will be announced closer to the launch date.
