Driven: Volvo XC90 T8 AWD Inscription

Cape Town - Niyaaz Isaacs is a petrolhead who loves making videos about robot-to-robot drag races at Killarney racetrack in Cape Town.

This time, he finds himself behind the wheel of the Volvo's flagship SUV - the XC90 T8.

Could this be Isaacs' conversion from a love of street cars to SUVs?

Isaacs says: As a car enthusiast, I was wary of climbing into the Volvo XC90 T8 AWD-drive Inscription version with Polestar engine upgrades.

Volvo says the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, along with the electric engine, boasts a whopping 300kW and 640Nm , but after the Polestar optimisation, the final outputs are 311kW and 680Nm of torque.

My concerns were thrown out the window as soon as I put my foot down. When in power mode the electric engine, working with the petrol engine, shoves you back into the most astonishingly comfortable seats I've experienced yet.

The SUV rockets to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds (at least according to Volvo’s statistics). It has decent fuel consumption rated at a claimed 5.2-litres/100km, and when the battery is fully charged, the XC90 is good for 2.1-litres/100km from the 50-litre fuel tank.

So if you're looking for something beautiful and capable of shaming some sports cars, you should keep the XC90 T8 on your shortlist - even if it's a huge SUV!

Watch the video below as Niyaaz Isaacs and Robert Daniels takes the XC90 T8 off the ordinary track.
