Coming to SA: Peugeot's new 3008 SUV

The new Peugeot 3008 has been unveiled at last and is set to take on demanding customers looking for new and different experiences, claims the automaker.

The new Peugeot 3008 SUV aims to assert itself from the off as a major player and will be presented to the public at the next Paris Motorshow ahead of its worldwide launch.

The Peugeot 3008 will go on sale worldwide from October 2016, including in South Africa.

Efficient engines

Four engine-choices will form part of the new 3008’s arsenal - the smallest being a 1.2-litre petrol and the biggest a 2.0-litre oil burber. All engines are mated to either six-speed manual or automatic transmission, except for the entry-level 1.6-litre (75kW) BlueHDI diesel that is equipped with a five-speed manual ‘box.

Three petrol models are on offer. A 1.2-litre PureTech (98kW) engine is available in either manual or automatic guises, while a 1.6-litre THP (123kW) model comes with an auto ‘box.

Two diesel engines will aim to keep emissions in the region 100 and 121g/km of CO2. In addition to the aforementioned entry-level diesel, the same engine will see power rise to 90kW and is mated to either a manual or automatic gearbox.

A 2.0-litre BlueHDI diesel is available in 112kW (six-speed manual) or 135kW (six-speed auto) guises.

i-Cockpit

Peugeot’s new i-Cockpit is a step forward in all areas, says the automaker. Higher quality visually, more technical in its design, better connected, more intuitive, it goes further still by playing on the pleasure and personalisation in its use.

Occupants get the immediate choice of two themes: the ‘Boost’ theme aimed at a dynamic driving style, and the ‘Relax’ theme for gentler driving. These two themes are entirely configurable, Peugeot claims.

Driver Sport Pack

Sight, touch and hearing can further benefit from the features of the Driver Sport Pack, which influences the following settings:

- firmer and more responsive power steering;
- more responsive accelerator pedal mapping;
- enhanced engine and gearbox response (on automatic versions, where paddle-shifters are also fitted to the steering wheel);
- engine sound amplified with a sporty note (via a digital amplifier which enhances the sound in the cabin);
- enhanced colour display on the various screens (instrument unit and touch-screen) with additional vehicle dynamics information displayed on the instrument unit: power output, boost pressure, longitudinal and lateral g-force.

Safety features

In typical French tradition, Peugeot has made sure its new 3008 SUV is equipped with numerous features. In addition to familiar functions such as Distance Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control, the vehicle also features:

- Speed limit recognition and recommendation that reads road signs using a camera at the top of the windscreen and projects it on the instrument unit; and

- Visiopark 1 & 2: two 180 degree cameras found at the back and front of the car that shows the area surrounding the vehicle, to name only but a few of the long list of features.
